Allston Street Preservation Award

Last month The Narrow Gate was honored to receive a Preservation Award from the Cambridge Historical Commission for our work with Homeowner's Rehab, Inc. on 151-157 Allston Street, in Cambridge, MA. This project restored a six-family home destroyed in a nine-alarm fire to a new standard of energy efficiency, achieving LEED Platinum. We were excited last fall to share our success in the realm of sustainability (including a HERS rating of 29!) and now we're excited to receive this honor for the rest of our design.

You can read more about Allston Street and HRI's mission at the HRI/CNAHS website, or visit the Cambridge Housing Commission for a list of this year's award recipients, and some great before-and-after images of our work!

Rebecca Schofield (HRI), David Flaschenriem (TNG), and Jane Carbone (HRI) accept the Preservation Award for 151-157 Allston Street.

Patriot Homes Ribbon Cutting

This post comes a little late for Veteran's Day, but we thought it was important to get our photos from the Ribbon Cutting out there - especially that cake! Thank you so much to Caritas Communities, South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation, and of course - all of our veterans.

We just received our HERS rating for the LEED Platinum home we built with HRI in Cambridge: 29! For reference, the standard new construction home built to international energy code is rated at 100, while a net zero building is rated at 0. That means we're 70% of the way to passive house!

Check out the Cambridge Chronicle article that HRI shared earlier for more information on the project.
